Qatar Aambal Tamil Sangam, Integral Training Centre and ITC Junction jointly conduct special speech programme

Qatar: As part of the Kannadasan 100-Day Special Series, jointly organised by Qatar Aambal Tamil Sangam, Integral Training Centre (ITC) and ITC Junction, ten distinguished professors participated in a special one-page speech programme and shared their thoughts, experiences and perspectives on ten different topics.

The programme provided an opportunity for the participants to demonstrate not only their knowledge and understanding of their respective subjects but also their communication, presentation and listening skills.

Each speech introduced a different theme and encouraged the audience to look at life, learning, success, professional values and personal development from new perspectives.

The speeches were evaluated by Dr. Hemalini, who served as the judge for the programme.

Rather than treating the evaluation merely as a competition, the judging process was designed as a constructive developmental exercise, enabling each participant to understand their strengths and identify areas that could be improved in future presentations.

Ten Parameters Used for Evaluation

Dr. Hemalini evaluated the participants based on ten key parameters:

  1. Clarity and depth of ideas – the ability to present the central message clearly, meaningfully and with sufficient depth.
  2. Pronunciation and clarity of speech – correct pronunciation, appropriate word usage and ease of understanding for the audience.
  3. Eye contact – maintaining natural and effective eye contact with the audience.
  4. Body language – appropriate use of facial expressions, gestures and hand movements.
  5. Voice modulation – effective variation in tone, pitch and emotional expression.
  6. Background knowledge – demonstrating adequate preparation, supporting information, examples and understanding of the topic.
  7. Time management – completing the presentation effectively within the allotted time.
  8. Focus on the given message – remaining relevant to the assigned topic without unnecessary deviation.
  9. Listening to other speakers – paying attention when others are speaking and participating as an attentive listener.
  10. Effective use of technology – appropriate use of microphones, videos, PowerPoint presentations and other technical tools wherever required.

The assessment was intended to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of public speaking and presentation skills.

Dr. Hemalini clarified that the feedback particularly highlighted areas where participants received comparatively lower marks. The purpose was not to criticise individuals but to provide a roadmap for improvement and excellence.

She presented her thoughts effectively and performed well across most of the evaluation parameters.

Her overall score was 67 out of 100.

Evaluation as a Tool for Continuous Improvement

The organisers emphasised that the purpose of the assessment was not simply to rank participants but to encourage continuous learning and improvement in communication skills.

The programme highlighted an important principle: effective public speaking involves much more than simply delivering information. A successful speaker must combine clarity of thought, preparation, pronunciation, eye contact, body language, voice modulation, audience engagement, time management, focused communication and attentive listening.

The evaluation also reinforced the importance of listening as an essential part of communication. Participants were assessed not only on how they delivered their own speeches but also on how attentively they observed and listened to fellow speakers.

The organisers believe that such a comprehensive approach can help participants become more effective communicators, educators and leaders.

“Convert Weaknesses into Strengths”

The central message emerging from the evaluation was that feedback should be viewed as an opportunity for growth.

The initiative encourages participants to:

Convert weaknesses into strengths.
Strengthen existing strengths.
Learn from every opportunity.
And make every speech better than the previous one.

Every participant contributed a unique thought, personal experience and perspective through the programme. The diversity of topics and approaches demonstrated the value of providing educators with platforms to express their ideas and engage in continuous learning.

The Kannadasan 100-Day Special Series continues to serve as a platform for intellectual engagement, communication development and the sharing of ideas.

The organisers expressed their appreciation to all the professors who participated enthusiastically and contributed their thoughts to the programme.

The evaluation by Dr. Hemalini has added another important dimension to the initiative by transforming the speaking activity into an opportunity for structured learning, self-assessment and continuous improvement.

The programme concluded with an emphasis on the importance of learning not only to speak better, but also to listen better, think deeper and communicate more effectively.

Qatar Aambal Tamil Sangam, Integral Training Centre and ITC Junction continue their collaborative efforts through the Kannadasan 100-Day Special Series to create meaningful opportunities for learning, expression and personal development.
