Initiative Led by Dr. Ravi Govindaraj Head of T&D, with Support from Mr. William, Managing Director of IFS
Doha, Qatar – National Sports Day (Second Tuesday of February):
Transforming a traditional wellness activity into a life-saving social initiative, a large-scale Blood Donation Drive was successfully organized as part of the Qatar National Sports Day celebrations, demonstrating the powerful role corporate organizations can play in supporting public health.
The initiative was led by Dr. Ravi Govindaraj, Head of Training – ITC, who proposed converting the usual walkathon activity conducted along the Doha Corniche (approximately 7-kilometer semi-circular stretch) into a meaningful humanitarian contribution through voluntary blood donation.
The proposal received strong support from Mr. William, Managing Director of IFS, whose encouragement and leadership enabled the organization to collaborate effectively with the Hamad Medical Team.
With excellent coordination and professional arrangements by the Hamad Medical Team, the blood donation camp was conducted at the Head Office training facility, where more than 1000 employees gathered enthusiastically to participate in this noble cause.
Medical professionals from Hamad Medical Corporation brought complete infrastructure, medical equipment, and expert staff to ensure that the donation process was conducted safely and efficiently according to international medical standards.
The initiative highlighted the importance of utilizing national celebrations not only for physical fitness activities such as walkathons but also for contributing directly to society through impactful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes.
Blood donation is a critical requirement worldwide, as blood cannot be manufactured artificially. Hospitals depend entirely on voluntary donors to support patients undergoing surgeries, accident victims, mothers facing childbirth complications, cancer patients receiving chemotherapy, children with thalassemia, and individuals requiring emergency medical treatment.
One unit of donated blood can help save up to three lives, as it can be separated into red blood cells, plasma, and platelets, each supporting different medical needs.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ravi Govindaraj emphasized the importance of meaningful corporate engagement:
“National events provide organizations with an opportunity to make a real difference in society. Instead of limiting National Sports Day to symbolic activities, we decided to contribute directly to the healthcare system through voluntary blood donation. When organizations unite employees for a humanitarian cause, the impact multiplies significantly.”
The Hamad Medical Team appreciated the initiative and acknowledged the organization’s effort in mobilizing a large number of employees for a humanitarian purpose. At the conclusion of the event, the organization was honoured with a certificate recognizing its contribution towards community health and social responsibility.
The initiative also created awareness among employees about the importance of regular blood donation and encouraged participants to continue supporting future blood donation campaigns.
The organizers expressed sincere gratitude to Mr. William, Managing Director of IFS, the Hamad Medical Team, leadership members, and all participating employees whose collective support made the initiative highly successful.
This event stands as an example of how organizations can combine employee engagement, national celebrations, and social responsibility to create a lasting positive impact on society.
